מִכָּאן אָמְרוּ, יִשְׂרָאֵל וּמַמְזֵרִים מִתְוַדִּים, אֲבָל לֹא גֵרִים וְלֹא עֲבָדִים מְשֻׁחְרָרִים, שֶׁאֵין לָהֶם חֵלֶק בָּאָרֶץ. רַבִּי מֵאִיר אוֹמֵר, אַף לֹא כֹהֲנִים וּלְוִיִּם, שֶׁלֹּא נָטְלוּ חֵלֶק בָּאָרֶץ. רַבִּי יוֹסֵי אוֹמֵר, יֵשׁ לָהֶם עָרֵי מִגְרָשׁ:
Da ciò dissero: israeliti e bastardi confessano, ma non si convertono e non liberano schiavi, poiché non hanno una parte nella terra. Il rabbino Meir dice che nemmeno i sacerdoti e i leviti non lo hanno fatto, poiché non hanno preso parte alla terra. Il rabbino Yosi dice che hanno città [con i dintorni] terra aperta.
Tosefta Bikkurim
Rabbi Yosei says, Rabbi Meir would say that Kohanim bring but do not recite because they were not given a portion of the land, but I say, just as the Levites were given [their own cities], so too the Kohanim were given [priestly gifts] which obtain both with much and with little (see Sifrei Devarim 165:8, Silverstein).
